Philanthropy in Action!

The Los Angeles Conservancy is a leader in historic preservation and has the largest membership base of any local preservation organization in the United States. Our members are our greatest asset, but membership support covers just 35% of our operating costs.

The Preservation Advocacy Fund (PAF) is a targeted action fund that directly supports the Conservancy’s core advocacy efforts. If you are a member, we hope you will consider supplementing your membership with a donation to the PAF.

If you are not a member but wish to support the Conservancy, donating to the PAF is the best way you can help promote historic preservation in Los Angeles County.

Gifts of Stock and Planned Giving

Through gifts of stock and planned giving, you can make longer-term arrangements to help conserve our cultural heritage.

The Conservancy welcomes gifts of stock. You can easily transfer gifts of stock to the Conservancy through your own and the Conservancy's stock brokers.

When making your estate plans, please consider a bequest to the Conservancy. Your planned gift of cash or securities will help ensure the future of preservation in Los Angeles. For more information on gifts of stock or planned giving, please call the Development Office at (213) 430-4204.

7th Street tourSponsorship

In addition to the generous support of our members, the Los Angeles Conservancy relies on assistance for specific projects as well as general operations for education and advocacy throughout the year. If you are interested in supporting specific Conservancy events or initiatives, please call the Development Office at (213) 430-4204.

We wish to express heartfelt thanks to the foundations, companies, and individuals who provided financial and in-kind support as sponsors, underwriters, and members of the Conservancy in 2011.

Subway Terminal Building
Subway Terminal Building
417 S. Hill Street, Downtown

Built in 1925, the 500,000 square-foot Subway Terminal Building served as the eastern terminus of the Hollywood Subway for nearly thirty years. The underground segment of the Red Car system ran from this building to the nearby Belmont Tunnel until the Red Cars stopped running in 1955. After decades of underuse, the building was converted into 277 luxury apartments and renamed Metro 417. It now stands as a vibrant element in the renaissance of downtown Los Angeles, and its adaptive reuse earned a Los Angeles Conservancy Preservation Award in 2006.
