For more than thirty years, our walking tours, special events, and other programs have brought countless Angelenos closer to the beautiful buildings and unique spaces that make Greater L.A. so special.

Walking Tours
The Los Angeles Conservancy's Walking Tour Program explores the history and heart of our amazing city through interpretation of L.A.'s unique architectural resources.
We offer eight regularly scheduled walking tours, led by skilled docents, that focus on the architecture of Los Angeles' historic downtown. Our tours have served more than 100,000 residents and visitors over the past thirty years.

The Conservancy is thrilled to participate in Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A. by reprising our Curating the City program with a focus on Greater L.A.'s amazing legacy of modern architecture.
A range of events, from tours and panel discussions to an Instagram contest, will showcase our unique modernist legacy and the need to preserve it.

Annual Meeting & Panel Discussion - Modern Renewal: Legacy of Lost and Found on Bunker Hill

The Conservancy’s annual meeting will feature a panel of experts discussing the evolution of downtown’s Bunker Hill from an upscale residential district at the turn of the twentieth century into the world-class commercial and cultural hub it is today. Held at the striking Bonaventure Hotel (John Portman & Associates, 1974-78), this free event will include a breakfast reception and optional tours of the hotel and surrounding area.

The Conservancy's annual Preservation Awards honor outstanding achievement in the field of historic preservation in Los Angeles County. Attended by hundreds of business and community leaders, our awards luncheon has gained a reputation as one of the most interesting and inspiring awards shows in town.

Ambassador Hotel (site of)
3400 Wilshire Blvd., Wilshire Center
Designed by Myron Hunt with later alterations by Paul R. Williams, the Ambassador Hotel was one of Los Angeles' defining historic sites and a main catalyst for the development of Wilshire Boulevard. Built on a former dairy farm miles from downtown, the 24-acre resort hotel was a hit from its opening on New Year's Day 1921. It quickly became a tourist attraction, a fashionable winter residence for East Coast society, and a prominent social center. The Ambassador was home to the Cocoanut Grove nightclub, L.A.'s premier night spot for decades; host to six Academy Award ceremonies and to every U.S. President from Herbert Hoover to Richard Nixon; and the site of the tragic assassination of Robert F. Kennedy in 1968. The hotel closed in 1989. After a fierce preservation battle spanning two decades, the building was demolished by the Los Angeles Unified School District in 2006.
